In 2022, the Elmhurst Art Museum helped relaunch Art in Wilder Park with a widely successful festival that attracted over 7,500 visitors (despite cold rain on both days)! For 2023, the Museum takes the reigns as lead producer of the outdoor festival, and we’ve set our sights on an even larger, more inclusive and accessible event for the whole family. Festival programming will feature over 125 booths of one-of-a-kind art, food vendors, and hands-on kid’s activities.
On the weekend of Art in Wilder Park, the Museum will unveil a newly commissioned public art installation of 10 life-sized “superhero” sculptures. This installation will be a bold preview of the Museum’s summer show, Marvelocity, featuring the iconic work of Marvel comic book artist Alex Ross, considered one of the greatest artists in the field of comic books. The superhero figures – customized by 10 different artists in a similar style as the 1999 Chicago cows - will be discoverable by the public during the popular Art in Wilder Park weekend and will remain on view into July 2023 during the Marvelocity exhibition.
As the first outdoor festival in the region each year, Art in Wilder Park is a highly anticipated Spring event in the western suburbs. In 2022, the event was voted one of the Best in the West, featured in numerous press outlets, and attracted nearly half of its visitors from outside of Elmhurst. Post festival evaluations showed a high percentage of the attendees also visited and supported local restaurants, coffee shops, and other businesses.
