Ukiyo-e, Japanese Woodblock Printmaking (Intro- Intermediate level)

This 3-session class introduces students to Ukiyo-e, a genre of Japanese woodblock prints with multiple carved woodblocks produced between the 17th and the 20th centuries. Students will experience basic carving and print the three to four-block printmaking process with a simple design provided by the instructor. They will also ink/color on two to three carved blocks to understand how kento, the registration mark, works in Japanese printmaking.
